Our History

In 2005, a client was looking for a solution to a defined benefit pension scheme deficit that was holding back a potential corporate transaction. The priorities were to clear the deficit efficiently and make sure it wouldn’t return as a result of investment performance.

Of the solutions providers they spoke to, none were prepared to back their solutions with a capital commitment or guarantee. Their fee structures also appeared somewhat one-sided. And they were very focused on their own world, with its in-built timetables, rather than the needs and concerns of companies such as the client. This struck us as not only less than satisfactory, but also a great opportunity!

So we formed a partnership to help meet the challenge. Drawing on our complementary commercial and pensions investment expertise, we created a set of solutions with all the right characteristics, notably genuine client focus, mutual gain, reward for performance and committed capital. We created Valiance.
